NunaX
Extremely aerodynamic and light design

All parts of NunaX have been redesigned by the Vattenfall Solar Team. The team uses lightweight materials for production. The design is so aerodynamic that the air resistance is less than that of the exterior mirror of a passenger car. Due to the shape and light weight of NunaX, the car can drive faster.

Better road holding due to revolutionary battery design

A radical new battery design makes it possible to place it at the front of NunaX. The center of gravity of NunaX thus comes to lie before the so-called aerodynamic center of the car. This ensures a more stable handling. The Vattenfall Solar Team completely redesigned the battery and worked with margins of less than a millimeter.

New software ensures reliability

Thanks to a completely new software design, the information about NunaX is more reliable than ever. The information exchange systems with the driver have also been improved.

Solar panel based on years of own R&D

The Vattenfall Solar Team designs and produces the NunaX solar panel itself. The panel is optimized for maximum revenue in Australia through a smart panel layout. A special coating over the cells ensures optimum light. The solar cells used come from space travel and are made from space-grade gallium arsenide.

The sailing solar car

NunaX is designed so that the car not only benefits from the energy of the sun, but also from the energy of the wind. Parts of the car are designed to work like a sail. This creates a forward force in crosswinds. And so this solar racing car drives not only on the power of the sun, but also on the power of the wind.

The sailing solarcar

The Vattenfall Solar Team will participate in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in October 2019. Here the team can become world champions for the eighth time.

NunaX takes part in the biennial Bridgestone World Solar Challenge from 13 to 20 October. Fifty student teams race from Darwin in the north to Adelaide, which is more than 3,000 kilometers south. This is the largest solar race in the world. The winner can call himself world champion solar racing.

NunaX is driven by three drivers. Each driver runs continuously for 3 hours. In addition, the temperature in NunaX can rise to as much as 50 degrees Celsius. The route then takes you via the public road. Safety is therefore important. In addition to the high-quality materials, a special cage construction offers the drivers extra safety.

The Solarcars
